PHASE 1 PLANNING: pRoPoSAL + BUDGEt

Community Service is a form of service learning. Service learning is basically using curriculum to help foster a sense of care and concern among students for their community and the world at large. This can be your village, an orphanage or a distant dying species. In the process of you recognizing and taking steps to meet the needs of others, you will enhance your creative, critical and reflective skills.

Week 1

This is our first class for CSI but we have changed our class to Friday this week, because we gonna have our class with diploma student and also our junior and the lecturer is going to brief all of us and we also have our junior that have been merged together in our class to assign job scope among the group. So our class is going to find sponsorship for few categories such as stationary, paints and furnuture. So for our junior they need to design for the project and also the poster design for donation group.

Week 2

This semester is like a blink of an eye, It is already week 2, I was assigned into finance group.

The responsibility in finance group is to collect the money from my classmates for the purpose of backup use for the subject. This week most of us find many sponsor and for the same time we also reject by many people. People thinks that they not yet get the full information of sponsorship details so they might not sure is it a kind of cheat. So we have discuss to send the sponsorship letter which sign by Mr.Edwin before we request for the sponsor by entrepreneurs.

Week 3

This week we have a small meeting with our classmate. Mr.Edwin want to know our progress for each group. For me, I sneak into painting group which have to find sponsor for the paint for the library. I got the info from my friend that they might sponsor for the paint but they need the info as soon as possible only can decide.

Other than that, I found some interesting stationery that could donate for those children! Inside have many different type of stationery which is Thomas and friend, Frozen and hello kitty stationery set. Although it is not many but I hope they are happy to see it!

Week 4

I started collect the money this week, but just some of the people transfer the money for me only. I keep reminding them in the Whatsapp group but only get reaction from those few tiny mouse.

This diagram show the group chat in the whatsapp, as you see there are just 4 people out of 28 person pass me the money only. Since today only the fourth week for CSI, I hope that all of my classmate will be cooperate with me so I could done my part easier.

This week is also our discussion and presentation week with all the group. We start our class at 12pm and Group 1 which is us started the presentation first. Darren our group leader started the presentation with the topic Sponsorship team!

I'm the group five in our team which is finance team. So I list out the statement that I have collect the money and present to our classmate about the finance progress. after I discuss with my lecturer, we need to collect the RM100 from all of them instead of just our class. We will give back to them after we collect from the school on week 10.

After I announced to the class, I asked Darren add me into the group leader whatsapp group so I can direct to them easier. I ask each group leader to collect the money from their own classmate and only send to me the total amount with the receipt.

and group 3 already pass me the money. So I have

told them to settle in by Week5.

Week 5

So this week is week 5, the progress for me to collect the money from all deisgn school students already collected finish.

I have written a post for the reminder for deposit whole week, but I only able to collect all on Sunday.

The last group is from group 4, they already bought a lamp from the deposit money that already approve by Ms.Norji. It is RM380 for the lamp so group 3 group leader only transfer me the left balance which is RM420.

So these are the receipt from each group from Group 2 - Group6. I ask them to send in the group is to have a prove so I won't make mistake on the amount for each class.

Week 6

This week we have to report all of our progress to Mr.Edwin. So we have a little group leader meeting during the CSI class. I am the group 5 which is the Finance group, so I have to wait for my turn and listen to other group to report. There are few interesting topic when we discussing such as donation for books group designing the poster that are cute! They want to locate in every corner in Taylor's to ask people for donation for books.

Week 7

This week is such a tough week, Week 11 is coming soon and we have to move our progress more further. As usual, this week CSI class we also having a small discussion with Mr.Edwin to talk about the current progress. I am the finance but also need to handle the logistic matter while on site.

Week 8

The sponsorship from Kansai Paint deliver all the paint that we sorted out the color we want this week. We help to carry the paints into the class and leave it at the front of the class, wait until week 11 only carry to the site.

Week 9

Is Week 9! We started collect books from many people that from outside and some cousin of our classmate. Some books is collected from Bryan' church even the aunty from Block C cafe also donate some books for us. We sort out the book like which is the story book,magazine and also the exercise book.

Week 10

We start to discuss the schedule with all the team which include our junior in the meeting room. Me as the finance department I have to go the meeting and know each department need how many money for their own part. For the logistic and food part I corporate with DID group 6 about the quantity and price that they might spent during the on site execution. Ms discuss about the carpool things with us and hope everything goes well on the event day.

After our discussion , everyone have to depart at 9am on the 15th June, every group have to prepare their own equipment during the execution day.

Week 11 -

ON-SITE EXECUTION WEEK

Finally week 11! Here comes our on-site execution day! Early in the morning we meet Darren in campus since we going with his car. We depart at 9am but don't know why it is so jam on saturday so Patrick take a nap in the car.

After 2 hours we finally reach the place, Mini Library Orang Asli. We started to unload all the stuff that we bought from IKEA and arrange them aside of the "furniture workshop".

At first, we think that it is very hard to assembly the chair so we took 4 person to try diy the first chair. But actually the hardest part is to tighten the screw below the chair so we separate into 3 groups to fasten our progress since we reach there already 11pm.

It is really happy to see all of us working in a group teamwork spirit! After we done the chair part, we also assembly the cupboard and the table. It is really hard to build up the cabinet if you are in one person, but with team we can build it up easily!

Table is the hardest furniture that we need to assembly, we did not bring the screw driver but luckily the neighbor borrow us to help us finish our work. It is very tight to screw in the screw so we use the method on changing people while another are tired. It is really great teamwork!

Me and Patrick also take part in the paint group. We volunteer to help cleaning the moss beside the stairs so they can paint the paint on it. We also help to paint the main door since another group have not enough people to take part in this job at the moment.

After few hours of hardworking, the interior group paint the wall with very nice workmanship. The art that draw on the wall are very nice! So after they slightly done the job inside, we started to carry the furniture that we have done assembly outside into this Mini Library. Books team start to arrange the books on the shelves after the cabinet have place inside the area.

We also take the group picture with Sem 6 team before we leave. It is very fun moment while we giving our passion to rebuild the library for orang asli.

I think this project of Community Service Initia will be my best experience and memory during my University life. We do not have so many chance to contribute to the society and really appreciate those people who help and donate for the people who really need help. This project "Rebuild the Library for Orang Asli" finally come to the last and next week is the Lauching day. Hope all of them will enjoy using this MINI LIBRARY!

WEEK 12

LAUNCHING DAY

The day before launching day, I went to IKEA and buy the locker cabinet, rugs and toy for the kids since we still have a lot balance on that time. Early in the morning I have a small discussion with Ms.Norji and Royce about the rug and toys we have to buy. The night at the same day I went to IKEA and choose for the things that have to prepare for Launching day.

At first, I have no idea which carpet should I buy so I texted Ms.Norji and ask about the pattern then I only take it. I took 2 big and 1 small rug that looks very joyful for kids. They could play some game on those carpets too!

"IVAR" Locker Cabinet is really hard to be found.

After I choose the toys and locker cabinet and I go make the payment at the counter. It is quite stressful because the locker cabinet that we willing to buy and it name is "IVAR". In the IKEA, IVAR is the full set things come with the wooden cabinet so I could not find it at first until I asked the staff.

Early in the morning of launching day, we are the first group who reach the site first so we separate into to group which is assembly the locker cabinet and decorate with the balloon. Bryan and Fiona take part into assembly furniture while me and Darren take part in Decoration Team.

The balloon we have to hang around the Mini Library during the launching day. So we have to do the first step which is pump all the balloon and tie them 4 in 1. Afterward, use the fish string to connect them into the hanging arch balloon.

Around 11AM, Group 6 which is design team they sent the banner to the site. We tie the banner first before we hang the arch balloon outside. So Bryan help to tie the balloon inside first. Patrick used few screw to tighten the banner because there is no joint for us to tie it up.

When other team members arrive they also started to do their own part. Alia them take part in wrapping the stationery that need to handover to the Orang Asli Kid. Zee Ling team is decoration team, they have to do the ribbon for the launching ceremony.

Later on, the girls group they also help to arrange all the utensils, plate and paper cup nicely on the table.

It is almost half an hour before the launching ceremony start, we have some interaction with the kids such as singing ABC with them and help them make some fancy things for them. We also take some picture with orang asli Kids!

2PM the launching ceremony started. The first session is play the video that shows all of the progress we did during this 12Weeks. Everyone is enjoying it!

After that, we go outside of the library and have a cut ribbon ceremony which means we are handover the Mini Library that already fully renovated to them!

We took the photo and everyone is so happy in the picture! Orang Asli kids should be very happy to see the new environment of Mini Library that we renovated for them!

In conclusion for this Community Service Initiative module, I have learnt to volunteer myself on servicing the community such as helping orang asli to rebuild their library to have better study environment, Also I have trained to be more responsible on all the tasks assigned to me and completed them on time. As a financial manager, I have to really take care of the flow on our budget. I do not have so much job in my part so I also joined other group to help them in all the progress, It was a great experience and good collaboration between my teammates and everyone producing all the work with best outcome. Last but not least, I had a good time spending with the orang asli kids during the lanching day, the time I saw their happiness then it is all worth.

Learning outcomes:
